Introducing Print & Paper

Wow, I am so excited to write up this blog post. A little background to bring everyone up to speed. During my undergrad, I had the opportunity to explore many different mediums besides what I initially went to school for, that being graphic design. I decided to take a few print making courses, as the two go hand in hand. One of my print courses, however, included learning how to make paper. The class was mostly for print making, and just learning the basics of paper making, but I ended up being more interested in the paper making aspect of that class. I found something that I really loved, more than graphic design, almost as much as photography (now I would say they’re pretty much equal). In my final and last year of school, I worked solely with paper making & paper pulp, making large sculptural sheets of paper and it was incredible. Ever since then, whenever I am able, I find a spot to set up in and splash away in my vat making sheet upon sheet of paper. But it got me thinking, how could I combine both my passions, photography and paper making? Seems obvious now but for the last few years I thought the two had to be separate. It wasn’t until I thought, why not try digitally printing on my paper, as I’ve used it for linoleum and screen printing in the past, how would digital prints look on it. So here and there for my clients, I started printing some of their photos from their wedding or senior photos for them to have as a keep sake. And I loved it. In my opinion, printing on my handmade, artisanal paper gives my photographs that perfect vintage flair.

That is why I am so excited to finally offer printing services on my handmade paper. I have a whole page on my website that gets into the specifics, which you can find here. On top of offering printing services, you can also order my handmade paper for your own needs and desires. They work great for wedding invitations, table placements, thank you cards — you name it! With my graphic design background, I am always interested in designing & printing wedding invitation suites. My sister Cecelia Hotzler is also a very talented designer, who you can check out for all your designing needs. She could design, I could do the paper making, I think that seems like a perfect pairing to me!

I thought I would include some photos of my work process and studio space! It is a garage studio, so I sweep it and clean it quite often but it does the job. My set up is far from perfect, and I am always improving and changing the way I work in the space, but I am very pleased to have a spot to work in. Photographs were taken by my husband & supporter of all my passions (thanks again, lovey!).
